2025 AWRA-NCRS Water Resources Symposium
The 13th National Capital Region Water Resources Symposium will be held on April 11, 2025, at the University of the District of Columbia. This one-day symposium brings together experts from governmental agencies, academia, the private sector, and nonprofit organizations to discuss challenges and opportunities for sustainable management of water resources and infrastructure in the region, as well as nationally and internationally.

Many communities across the nation are protected by levees, which are often decades old and built without the benefit of modern engineering practices. Development often intensifies behind levees putting more reliance on the levee’s ability to protect these communities.

Guided Walking Tour of the Alexandria Waterfront Flood Mitigation Project
Please join us on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 18th at 2:00 pm for a presentation and walking tour at the Alexandria Waterfront. This outing will include an overview of the Alexandria Waterfront Small Area Plan and Flood Mitigation Project, which has evolved over time to incorporate resiliency, water quality objectives, anticipated future rainfall conditions, and budget constraints. The tour will include discussions on some of the challenges and opportunities experienced with the project; highlighting specific considerations, regulations and policies including civic engagement, landscape guidelines, stormwater regulatory compliance, accessibility and other competing interests.
