Anacostia Riverkeeper

The Anacostia Riverkeeper is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the Anacostia River for all who live, work, and play in the watershed. This presentation will provide an overview of the Anacostia Riverkeeper water quality monitoring program, which documents the progress towards a swimmable Anacostia River, as well as advocacy by the Riverkeeper focused on toxics cleanup to move the river closer to a safely fishable Anacostia River. Other programs managed by Anacostia Riverkeeper to be discussed will include connecting people to the river, watershed trash cleanups, and implementing green infrastructure.

Executive Director, Rock Creek Conservancy

Rock Creek Conservancy is the only organization dedicated solely to Rock Creek and its parks, which meander 33 miles through Montgomery County and Washington, DC. The Conservancy uses people-powered restoration to build stewardship and support for the restoration of Rock Creek. This presentation will cover Rock Creek Conservancy’s suite of programs - from casual events to connect new audiences to Rock Creek to invasive plant removals and litter cleanups to community science programs – that provide meaningful experiences in places people love to visit each year as a springboard for long-term care for Rock Creek. Coupled with workforce development and education programs to advance green infrastructure, these provide a foundation to move towards a swimmable, fishable Rock Creek buffered by healthy, resilient forests in a world class national park and recreation area for all people here in the mid-Atlantic region.
