Event Speakers
Patrick Canning, PhD – Senior Economist for USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS)
Pat Canning is a Senior Economist for USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS), where he studies the US and global food system with a focus on research that informs food policy discussions at the Federal level. Dr. Canning holds a master’s degree in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland and a PhD in Economics from the George Washington University.
Susana Garcia, PhD Candidate at the Penn State University’s Civil Engineering Department
Susana Garcia is a Ph.D. candidate at the Penn State’s Civil Engineering Department. The goal of her research is to map and quantify indirect water uses associated with the production and consumption of agricultural and industrial products under a data-driven approach, relying on complex network theory, econometrics, and statistical modeling.
Mohamad Hejazi, PhD – Senior Research Scientist at the Joint Global Change Research Institute
Mohamad Hejazi is a research scientist. He leads the integrated water research program at the Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI), a collaboration between the University of Maryland and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL Dr. Hejazi holds a B.S. (2002) and M.S. (2004) degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Ph.D. (2009) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
